Lobbying to Allow Ferment-on-Premise
The CCWA is currently in discussions with the Provincial government regarding updating the existing regulations to allow retail stores selling wine kits to operate as Ferment-on-Premise businesses in the same way as most of the other provinces in Canada.
In 2015, the CCWA commissioned an extensive industry study looking at the trends of the consumer made wine industry in all provinces across Canada. Our goal in Alberta is use this study to support the fact that provinces that updated their regulations to allow FOP have shown an increase in revenue and an increase in the number full time employees in our industry. This, of course, is good for the provincial government as more revenue means more taxes and more full time employees means an increase in contributions to government programs like CPP and EI.
The CCWA will continue to update our members with the results of our discussions as they progress.
In a surprise move, the Government of Manitoba has moved forward quickly to legalize On-Premise Brewing in the province. The Draft Legislation is available here. The CCWA will be meeting with the Liquor Control Board of Manitoba over the next few months.
